Greetings

The 19th Annual Meeting of the Japanese Society for Epigenetics will be held over two days, June 25th and 26th, 2026, at the Chiba City Cultural Center in Chuo Ward, Chiba City, Japan.

This year marks an important milestone in epigenetics research, 30 years since the first identification of a nuclear histone acetyltransferase by Dr. David Allis and colleagues. Since the end of the 20th century, various chromatin-modifying enzymes, including DNA methyltransferases and chromatin remodeling factors, have been identified one after another. Epigenetics research, coupled with studies of chromatin structure and functional regulation, has rapidly expanded worldwide. In this century, genome-wide analysis of chromatin modifications has become possible, and with the dramatic advances of various methods, including imaging and single-cell analysis. We are now surrounded by vast amounts of epigenomic information and biological data. What insights can we glean from this information? How can we connect these insights to create new knowledge? To answer these questions, there is a greater need than ever before for researchers from a variety of backgrounds to come together and exchange actively.

Under the slogan "Exploring the History and Pioneering the Future of Epigenetics Research", this year's annual meeting will feature the latest research findings by leading scientists across a wide range of epigenetics-related fields. We will also invite top leaders from overseas who have led basic epigenetic research to revisit the field's origins while envisioning its future. In addition to poster presentations, two types of oral presentations selected from those posters will be set up. We will further promote new initiatives to ensure that participate in the discussions freely and openly, without feeling any barriers as much as possible.

We hope that many people with an interest in epigenetics will come together in Chiba, which is celebrating its 900th anniversary since its founding. Through new encounters and chemical reactions of knowledge, we will open up new horizons for research. We look forward to your participation.
